The circular economy in the construction industry is gaining significant momentum in Austria—and digital solutions are playing an increasingly central role in this development. At this year’s BRV Day, it became clear that, in order to use resources more efficiently and sustainably increase recycling rates, innovative digital tools are needed above all—in addition to a regulatory framework.

One highlight of the event was Katharina Heil’s presentation on the “Recycling Plattform Bau.” The platform demonstrates how digitalization can concretely contribute to optimizing material flows: Through the intelligent networking of material suppliers and buyers, available recycled building materials become visible, transport routes are shortened, and existing recycling capacities are better utilized.

Particularly in the area of excavated soil—which accounts for a significant portion of construction waste in Austria—digital matching opens up new possibilities for viewing materials not as waste, but as a valuable resource.

For VITAVO, this confirms once again that digital transformation is a crucial lever for successfully combining sustainability and economic efficiency in the construction and circular economy sectors. Platform solutions like this one create transparency, efficiency, and new opportunities for collaboration along the entire value chain.
